Inspiring. Now I kind of want to work on my own 80 year old $20k house a bit. But how did you finance all the expensive material? It quickly gets so expensive when doing stuff on the house. I see you're building your own window frames, and that seems great for the wallet. But u said u should've bought a window instead, why? They cost $500+ here.

Defenitly look for a used fireplace on blocket, or marketplace first, if you are on a budget. People are tearing out their old solid stoves, when they are renovating, and selling them for little money. These are stoves made in Sweden, and not China...

Ha ha ha I did the exact same thing lived in a small student college room for years. Then moved out, got an apartment. For 6 months i lived almost exclusively in the small bedroom of the apartment. I had a big living room and a kitchen that it literally took me 6 months or so to really get use to and start to use. Sometimes you just get stuck in subconscious habits.

What a lovely spot to have a cup of tea and a rest. Don't worry if the raspberries eventually need a bit of pruning--they are hardy and will even improve when trimmed. Just be sure to cut from the bottom, and take the older canes out. Even the vine will prosper with a trim, becoming thicker at the bottom and not grow to be woody.

If you want some localized heat where your desk is use some tea lights under an upside down terracotta plant pot. These heat the pot well and turn it into a nice little radiator

To make a fire you put newspaper bunched up at the bottom, wood on top. Light the paper with a match. Viola! if it's sour wood that doesnt want to burn use birch bark, dry twigs, really any thin wood/glass like material will do if it's dry. Or some nice pine rich in sap.

I don't worry about wild animals because they are just being animals. Humans on the other hand I do worry about true crime or not. I live alone myself in the woods and have had encounters with animals. I do have people and neighbors around most keep themselves however there's always one that proves why humans are dangerous.
